The Pattern

I joined the military. The Air Force - just out of high school. Boundless energy with limitless potential and ideas, along with a hearty zeal for life. Yet, i had no idea what i wanted to do - or could do. I let Uncle Sam point the way the way for while. After high school. Well, during high school and junior high it became apparent that learning via a traditional classroom was not the best way for me to flourish. Especially when it was time for the teacher to TEST us. Talk about defeat. Learning wasn't the problem, it was answering the questions with the proper

and the occasional E. Answer
Whatever the opposite of flourish was, i did that during my schooling.
My dad was an insurance adjuster and occasionally we would go to an auto body repair shop. I remember thinking, with my eyes fixed on all the tools in that shop. What if my dad was that guy, not the insurance guy. What could i build or create? My parents didn't care what i did after High School. I was the blacksheep. They just wanted me to go. Go away and do something.
After high school i slowly found my way. Years later i find myself watching the discovery channel and the history channel end on end. I think the discover channel's American Choppers kicked this all in gear. An appreciation for people who make/build/transport. Combining art with grease.
Yet there has always been a black cloud over my head when it comes to my profession. I suppose part of my diss-satisfaction of driving is telling people. Or that girl you just met, "i am a truck driver".
Which NEVER leads to .. OH REALLY! that sounds so interesting!

- Art doesn't PAY! Though it is the most rewarding thing - to create something.
- If you have been working in a profession for over 5 years, no matter how bad it may be, that is probably what you should be doing.
- I like repetitive work.
- Being an artist does pay if you believe you are worth more that what you create. (its about promoting yourself, not necessarily your art)
- If i didn't love driving so much i would be welding.
