Secret Elixir Will Quadruple Miles Per Gallon
After almost 3 days of intensive experimenting I, George Wilkins, have developed a secret elixir that you can pour into your fuel tank and it is guaranteed to quadruple your miles per gallon!
Scientists at several major testing laboratories have verified the results. Dr I. M. GonaGetcha of Folly University has independently tested this break-through concoction and stated that “this is a miracle development that should be used by all.” He further explained that the elixir breaks down the molecules in diesel fuel and causes the atomic number to increase fourfold thus enabling the fuel to be consumed more slowly. Five miles per gallon automatically becomes 30 MPG simply by adding one jar to your tank.
Dr. R. U. Krazzee of Neanderthal College has also independently verified the results and explains that this fuel contains the secret ingredients contained in KY jelly which provides increased lubrication for pistons and causes them to slide in and out with significantly less friction than ordinary lubricants provide. (Please use this only for its intended purpose)
Send Checks, Money Orders or Cash to Secret Fuel Elixir, PO Box 555, Kiddenme, Arizona 67091. The cost is only $29.95 per bottle plus a small postage and handling charge ($18.95) and it will be shipped immediately. This product is contained in a secure glass bottle to prevent leakage and has a medal clasp over the top. It may look like a mason jar.
Special Offer - For a limited time - two additional jars will be forwarded to you at no charge, Simply pay the postage and handling and they will be included in this offer. Imagine not one, not two, but THREE jars that will increase your profits substantially.
Guaranteed – If for some reason you do not get at least 35 MPG with this product simply mail the red seal from the jar to Red Herring, 35 Lost Road Avenue, Deadletter, Missouri 22222 and a complete refund will be sent to you.
Thank You Truckers and know that America is looking out for you!
Note – please excuse my poor humor, but I have trouble believing the claims that are made by some of these folks trying to help us. Me thinks they are taking advantage of a bad situation. Some of the politicians and economic experts are even making suggestions that they must have pulled from some dark recess.
On the other hand, I think Dan Little and many others are working hard for us. Senator Snowe, a Republican and Senator Brown, a Democrat have even proposed a law that will help. To all that are struggling – hang in there. Things will get better.

A survey carried out by the National Pest Technician Association last year revealed that the brown rat population had increased nationally year on year by 39% since 1999. Its interesting that it was the Victorians, who never had a Labour government that introduce street cleaning and all kinds of inspection systems, and that it is New Labour that is continually eroding the quality of these services. Naturally any correlation between the increase in the rat population and the terms of the...

Lose Your Job and Help the Economy
I'm not an economist – heck I have trouble balancing the checkbook. But I was just reading this article on CNN and I think I will volunteer to help the rest of America out of this economic jam.
Seems like that got it figured out. Right now if I was to lose my job, I could only collect unemployment for 26 weeks, but those political folks are suggesting that it ought to be extended for another 26. Heck, that's a year!
These guys - “Maurice Emsellem, policy co-director for the National Employment Law Project cited estimates that for every dollar spent on extended benefits, the economy would see a return of $2.15. Others, including Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com., estimate the return would be $1.64 in spending.”
So, I could help the economy by losing my job, collecting benefits and not working! Now that's some smart folks recommending that and I'm willing to take their advice. Heck – I could probably get a little part-time thing going on the side and we'd be in better shape than if I worked. I think my wife can help too!
Wait a minute – let me read that again. These smart guys say that every dollar they give to me will gain $2.15 for the economy and help other folks.
Shoot, I'm volunteering folks. It will be tough, but I'm willing to help. I'm only doing this for you so if you want to thank me you can send a check to me at PO Box 5555, Thanksalot, California 34455.
You can read the article here if you are thinking of volunteering – hell, maybe the whole country should stop working and we'll all get rich.

A survey carried out by the National Pest Technician Association last year revealed that the brown rat population had increased nationally year on year by 39% since 1999. It’s interesting that it was the Victorians, who never had a Labour government that introduce street cleaning and all kinds of inspection systems, and that it is New Labour that is continually eroding the quality of these services. Naturally any correlation between the increase in the rat population and the terms of the New Labour administration are purely speculative.

Rats are smarter than you think
While the scenario of rats roaming the streets in packs is though to be unlikely, it is the discarded chips, burgers, kebabs and take-away pizzas, which are mostly to blame for the increase in the rat population. This may induce packs of rats to hunt late night drunken revellers and steal their savaloys while they lay paralytic in the street. This may also account for government changing the rules on the ‘drinking hours’ in the UK, although it has not been successful in changing the ‘pack habit’. All it has done is shift the time at which it occurs.
Rats are agile little beasts that can climb brickwork, guttering, swim along pipes, and scamper up u-bends. It is thought the prospect of a rat using a u-bend would cause considerable anxiety in some sectors of the population, but the Government ‘Gender Equality Unit’ refuse to comment on this.
Rats have far superior reproductive capabilities, a female can give birth once a month, and a breeding pair produce a colony of 2000 in a year. A reliable source has said that the possibility of teenage pregnancies exceeding this rate of reproduction is virtually impossible, and in any event these are both matters for local government. A local government source tells me that the same department does not deal them with both. Rodent control is now privatly sponsored with all services paid for by the client, while teenage pregnancy is now state sponsored with all services paid for by the welfare state.
The British rat population is estimated at somewhere around 60 million (approximately one rat per head of population). Rats can kill us: there is the small matter of the Black Death plague, fleas carried to Europe by the rodents riding the new trade routes wiped out a third of the continent's population. Illegal immigrants now use these same trade routes and a ‘Border Guard Agency’ has been established to control this use of the old trade route. However, they have no remit to deal with rats. A representive for an 'Animal Rights' group says that this is entirely appropriate, as the Border Guard Agency staff are not trained to act humanely. Further, a reliable source says that there is no evidence of any mass migration of rats from Europe to the UK, besides, rats can travel freely throughout Europe and unlike MEPs are not mentioned in the new treaty at all.

Catherine Reilly (Dublin, Metro Eirann): The shadow boxing is winding down. The gloves are off. Use whatever lazy boxing metaphor you want. The Irish debate on the Lisbon Treaty is about to get real (or perhaps just a little more real than it has been).

Another interesting report from the Pew Internet / American Life project has was published last week.
Lenhart, A. et al (2008)
Writing, Technology and Teens. Pew Research Center.
http://www.pewinternet.org/PPF/
r/247/report_display.asp There were 700 telephone interviews (using quite a robust sampling methodology, explained in the report) and eight focus groups, all with teens in the USA.
The summary is "Teens write a lot, but they do not think of their emails, instant and text messages as writing. This disconnect matters because teens believe good writing is an essential skill for success and that more writing instruction at school would help them." That sounds a bit bland, but there is a lot more detail than that in the actual report! The nature and quality of learners' writing is generally a concern in the UK, too, in my experience.

Mary Peters Secretary of Transportation Starts New DOT Blog
Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters began the DOT blog today. In part she said, “This new opportunity will allow me and others here at the Department to speak with you and engage in an earnest conversation about our nation’s transportation system…and, I hope, have a little fun while we’re doing it.”
The new blog will enable comments from the public and serves as another avenue to contact officials about transportation policies. Links to every DOT agency are available at this site.
