Joachim “HellBoy” Hansen Looking for Sponsor

July 4th, 2008 by JapanMMA

Anyone who reads this site knows that I have my favorite fighters (even thought I took the list down). At the top of my list is Joachim "HellBoy" Hansen. If I want to introduce someone to MMA, I put on the Hansen vs. Uno fight from 2005. In my opinion he also had the best fight of DREAM 1 and 3, and I am sure his fight with Alvarez will be close to the fight of the year in 2008. He will fight in DREAM 5, which will air LIVE on HDNet in the US.

He is a fighter that always is noticed in the press-conferences, and his comments are often discussed for weeks afterwards by fans. This has in turn led to a huge following of fans around the world.

Hopefully there is someone out there who can see the value of building a long-term relationship with a fighter like this. Joachim Hansen is a name that any MMA fan around the world would recognized.

If you would be interested in working with Joachim Hansen and his team, send me a mail and I will relay contact details. japanmma@hotmail.com

As a gesture (not a thing of great value, I guess...), in addition to the benefits of the deal with Joachim, I am happy to put an ad on my site for anyone who sponsors Joachim.

Now for some highlights:

Bill ‘risks undermining counterterrorism efforts’, Tom Griffin

July 4th, 2008 by Tom Griffin

Tom Griffin (London, The Green Ribbon): The House of Lords begins debating the Counterterrorism Bill on Tuesday, the day after the third anniversary of the 7/7 bomb attacks in London.

In a briefing on the legislation released today, Human Rights Watch argues that detaining terrorism suspects for up to six weeks without charge violates the fundamental right to liberty and risks undermining counterterrorism efforts.

Muslims under siege, Stuart Weir

July 4th, 2008 by Stuart Weir

Stuart Weir (Cambridge, Democratic Audit): There is no such thing as the single monolithic “British Muslim community” that our politicians and media discuss.  Britain’s one and a half million or so Muslims belong to a remarkably diverse set of communities; in all, it is estimated, there are over 50 ethnicities speaking almost 100 languages between them.

Positive Anger, Zainab Magdy

July 4th, 2008 by Zainab Magdy

Being a young woman in a patriarchal society and having what our society calls feminist tendencies is not easy. I study English literature in Cairo University and 95% of my professors are women. When you are a 17 year old who is still trying to find herself and is surrounded by women who are strong, talented and independent, you start wondering why the society around you gives more importance to males and treats you as the inferior sex. Unlike many young women my age it was easy for me to understand and embrace feminism and gender equality because of the women I am surrounded, with beginning with my grandmother and mother, to my professors and friends. Knowing these women has definitely changed my perspective. I came to be more tolerant. I came to realize that our society does not just rate women as inferiors, but there are stereotypical images of men that all boys are expected to grow up and fit into. Those images do not just erase the male's identity but they enhance the ideas of male superiority and at times chauvinism. Being aware of that changed my anger into positive anger and that was when I started writing.

Portable Gas Generators - Get Ready for Winter

July 3rd, 2008 by Trucker Talk - Truck Blog

When it comes to emergency preparation during the winter, a few blankets and an emergency lamp might get you through the night, but if you’re operating with the motto "better safe than sorry", you might want something better able to take the chill, like a portable generator.

If the power in your vehicle fails during the winter months, the interior of your cab will start getting cold awfully fast. Not only will you have to stand the cold, but also emergency electronics like laptops and GPS units that usually run on battery power will be unable to operate if your battery is not working. Having access to the Internet or a GPS unit might allow you to call for help or find your way out of an emergency situation. Emergency generators, while costly, are worth the security they give you in the midst of a crisis.

The 3500 watt gas generator manufactured by C.M.T. is an example of a portable generator that will stand up to almost any cold winter emergency. For just under $400, the generator will run for an average of eight hours. Because the generator runs on gasoline, it is also relatively easy to fuel. Keeping an extra container of gasoline handy and properly stored will increase the generator’s run time, as the generator runs on a 3.2 gallon tank.

In addition to its long life, the generator is marketed as “super portable” by the manufacturer, fitted with a handle that pops up for easy moving and folds down for easy storage. Because it is compact, weighs little, and is encased in a solid steel frame, the generator is not only easy to move from location to location, but it is also able to put up with rugged terrain and the beating it could receive from daily life on the road. According to the manufacturer, the generator has a long life, so truckers can be sure that even if an emergency does not occur for years down the road, this generator will perform when called upon. The engine is also EPA approved and the engine is both heavy duty and reliable.

Though it may be purchased for emergency use, this generator doesn’t have to be put away for bleary winter days. The generator is also great to use for camping and outings to rustic places where power isn’t easy to come by. In addition, because the generator runs on gasoline, it can double as an emergency generator both on the road and in the home. For truckers that want to make sure they stay safe no matter where they are, this generator is a perfect pick.

Brown And Straw defend renewal, Anthony Barnett

July 3rd, 2008 by Anthony Barnett

Anthony Barnett (London, OK): The Prime Minister appeared before the liason committee of chairs of Commons select committees this morning. Seems pretty sad. I am reproing below the blog account from the Guardian's Andrew Sparrow of the initial section of the proceedings on so-called 'constitutional renewal'. The question from Vaz is amusing. His reference to the governership of Burmuda is taken from Diane Abbott's speech in the 42 days debate, when she said that the House of Commons on the Labour side had been reduced to a "baazar". if you saw the clip after yesterday's PMQ when Vaz denied he had been offered a knighthood as his 'appropriate reward' but said there was still time, you may have noticed Abbott sitting right behind him - with an expression of grim satisfaction.
